Psychedelic Harm Reduction & Integration Therapy (PHRI)

What is it & How Can it be Helpful?

Honoring Indigenous Wisdom in Psychedelic Healing

Psychedelic and plant medicine practices have been used for generations by Indigenous cultures around the world for healing, spiritual connection, and community well-being. Today’s growing interest in psychedelic therapy, harm reduction, and integration counseling is deeply connected to these longstanding traditions.

As a provider of psychedelic harm reduction and integration therapy, I acknowledge that many of the substances and practices discussed in modern therapeutic spaces originate from Indigenous knowledge systems that have historically been marginalized or appropriated.

A Respectful, Ethical Approach to Integration Therapy

In my practice, I strive to:

  • Honor the cultural origins of plant medicine and psychedelic healing practices
  • Approach this work with humility, cultural awareness, and ongoing education
  • Avoid replicating or presenting Indigenous ceremonies outside of their cultural context
  • Support clients in understanding the broader historical and cultural significance of their experiences

While my work is grounded in evidence-based psychotherapy and psychedelic integration therapy, it is important to recognize that these approaches exist alongside—and not in place of—the sacred traditions that have preserved this knowledge across generations.

Why This Matters in Psychedelic Integration Work

Acknowledging Indigenous wisdom is an essential part of ethical psychedelic preparation and integration therapy. It helps foster:

  • Greater respect for the origins of psychedelic and plant medicine practices
  • More intentional and informed use of these experiences
  • Awareness of the cultural and historical context surrounding healing practices

This perspective supports a more grounded, responsible approach to psychedelic harm reduction, integration therapy, and personal growth.

Psychedelic Harm Reduction & Integration Therapy

A grounded, supportive space for exploring and making sense of psychedelic experiences

Psychedelic experiences can be deeply meaningful—but they can also be confusing, overwhelming, or difficult to process alone. Whether you’re preparing for an experience, navigating something challenging, or trying to integrate insights into your everyday life, therapy can help you do so safely and intentionally. Offering a nonjudgmental, confidential space to explore your experiences and support your well-being at every stage of the journey.

What Is Harm Reduction?

Harm reduction is a compassionate, practical approach focused on minimizing potential risks while supporting informed, intentional choices.

In our work together, harm reduction may include:

  • Exploring your motivations and intentions
  • Discussing emotional, psychological, and environmental safety
  • Preparing for challenging experiences (“difficult trips”)
  • Identifying contraindications or risk factors
  • Developing grounding and coping strategies

This approach is not about encouraging or discouraging psychedelic use—it’s about supporting your safety, autonomy, and mental health.

What Is Integration Therapy?

Integration is the process of making meaning from your experiences and applying insights in ways that support lasting growth.

Without integration, even powerful experiences can fade, feel confusing, or remain unresolved.

Integration therapy can help you:

  • Make sense of complex or intense experiences
  • Work through difficult emotions that surfaced
  • Translate insights into real-life changes
  • Strengthen self-awareness and personal values
  • Reconnect with your sense of purpose or direction

Who This Is For?

This service may be helpful if you:

  • Are considering a psychedelic experience and want to prepare safely
  • Have had a recent experience and feel unsettled or unsure what to do next
  • Experienced anxiety, fear, or distress during a journey
  • Are seeking to deepen personal growth or spiritual insight
  • Want support integrating past psychedelic experiences

My Approach

My approach is:

  • Trauma-informed – prioritizing safety, pacing, and nervous system awareness
  • Client-centered – honoring your values, beliefs, and lived experience
  • Nonjudgmental – creating space for honest, open exploration
  • Integrative – drawing from evidence-based modalities such as mindfulness, somatic awareness, and parts work

I meet you where you are—whether you’re feeling curious, inspired, confused, or overwhelmed.

Important Note

Psychedelic Assisted Therapy is the provision/use of psychedelics in the therapy session, and remains currently illegal in the state of Michigan despite decriminalization in some cities, aside from FDA-approved clinical trials or the use of Ketamine in Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP). As a state-licensed clinician, I cannot provide, facilitate or guide a client on psychedelics in therapy or advise an individual on whether it might be beneficial to use psychedelics or plant medicine, dosing, or acquisition and I cannot provide referrals to illegal or underground providers or practitioners. I can, however, provide therapeutic support around education, harm reduction, preparation, and planning to individuals considering or who have decided to use psychedelics, and provide post-experience integration therapy and support. This can take many forms and would be tailored to the individual's needs, experiences, and intentions*.

*I do currently hold a Facilitator in Training (NMIT-Natural Medicine In Training) license in the state of Colorado - this is a non-clinical license.
